Aromatherapy is used successfully in the labor and delivery departments of progressive hospitals to assist the mother to alleviate some of the common symptoms associated with childbirth. Aromatherapy is known to assist the physiology of the body and physical changes. The use of aromatherapy is also known to strengthen the Mother’s energy to help support the growth and health of the baby in addition to her own body. Aromatherapy is balancing to all levels of the mother’s being: spirituality, mentally, emotionally, and physically.

  • *Listed below are some of the symptoms that are associated with Pregnancy. An Essential Oil blend can be of great assistance in treating the following symptoms:

      • Nausea/Morning Sickness
      • High Blood Pressure
      • Insomnia
      • Edema/Swollen ankles/fluid retention
      • Fatigue
      • Headaches
      • Leg cramps
      • Sore Breasts
      • Stretch marks
      • Varicose Veins
      • Indigestion/ Heart Burn

  • A synergy blend can be added to a footbath, full bath, and/or compress over the abdomen or lower back. It can also be used through inhalation, and during full body massage.

  • Listed below are some examples of safe oils that can be used in the early stages of pregnancy, during pregnancy and through Postpartum along with some of their therapeutic qualities:

      Lavender- Can is soothing to an aching back, or used to help relieve headaches.
      • Mandarin- Is known to relieve fatigue- when used as a leg and ankle massage. It can also ease fluid retention/ good for urinary tract infection.
      • Neroli- can ease nervous tension, stress, anxiety and depression
      • Petitgrain- Can be good for depression during pregnancy and also for postpartum
      • Tangerine- Used as a tonic for upset stomach/good for relieving constipation
      • Ylang Ylang- Can lower high blood pressure/hypertension/antidepressant
  • OILS FOR USE AFTER 20 WEEKS:

      • Cypress- gentle diuretic helps hemorrhoids, decongesting fluid retention in heavy aching legs and swollen ankles.
      • Geranium- tired and aching legs, good for poor circulation sore nipples, pain relief in labor.
      • Lemon- good for varicose veins
      • Sandalwood- urinary infections during pregnancy
      • Tea Tree- Vaginal infections, respiratory infections
  • ILS FOR LABOR AND DELIVERY:

      • Rose- regulating, toning, and cleansing effect of uterus, assist in circulation, can encourage deep and calm breathing, and has wonderful antidepressant qualities.
      • Neroli- can help reduce fear, apprehension and anxiety
      • Jasmine- Can help uterine pain, strengthening contractions leading to shortening labor, assist in breathing, can also be used as a compress laid on the lower abdomen immediately after birth to expel placenta
      • Lavender- can soothe headaches brought by nervous tension and help dispel feelings of panic in first pregnancy, increases strength but not pain in contractions
