A True Harmony Minute on Acne
Hello! I’m Lorri Woodmansee, Licensed Aesthetician at the Center for True Harmony Wellness & Medicine. Here’s some information on Acne: What causes It?
There are various theories of what can cause acne. The formation of acne is caused the clogging of the pores, but in truth there is no one exact cause that clogging of the pores can be attributed to.
There are three levels of acne, there is the papule which is a 'whitehead' near the surface of the skin, there is the pustule which is a larger whitehead that is a little deeper that the papule, lastly there is cystic acne which is much deeper. Cystic acne can cause painful lesions and cause scarring.
Sebum is a protective substance that is formed by glands referred to as "sebaceous" glands located in the hair follicles. It is a substance that is important to the vitality and protection of the skin. For some individuals, the sebaceous glands tend to be more active. If the follicle pores become clogged with sebum, acne is formed.
Acne is a bacterial infection that is easily spread. The clogged pores gather dead skin cells and sebum in which bacteria is drawn to. So in addition to the clogged pores, there is a host of bacteria living and thriving causing the infections to spread.
Drying agents such as topical treatments many people use to treat acne don't usually eliminate the problem. When bacteria are put in threatening living environments they develop a protective shell referred to as a 'spore'. This stage allows the bacteria to survive even if they cannot thrive. Once this threatening environment is eliminated (discontinuing the drying agent), the bacteria will go on as before.
Treatment is available. Here at True Harmony our treatments seek to kill the bacteria and prevent it from spreading. A combination of skincare products combined with hi-frequency treatments (hi-frequency treatments utilize electric currents to kill the bacteria) have been found to be very effective with clients who struggle with acne
Before you see your doctor, consult with an esthetician, as your acne may be very treatable without oral medication.
