A True Harmony Minute on Parabens – How to Find Them

Hello and Welcome to a True Harmony Minute. My name is Jacqueline Gillam, a True Harmony licensed aesthetician and Botanical skin care creator. Todays minute is on Parabens. On our last minute we discussed what parabens are and why they are dangerous to our bodies. Today, I will show you how to identify them on product labels.

The word paraben identifies a group of chemical preservatives. So your products will not just say paraben on them. There will be a prefix in front of the word paraben.
Take a look at this popular body lotion. It contains two types of parabens, methyl paraben and propyl paraben. These are the two most commonly used forms of paraben.

It is popular for companies to advertise their products as green or natural. This body wash in particular is advertised as a natural aromatherapy product. It does contain natural ingredients, but as you can see it also contains methyl paraben.

The other types of paraben to watch for are Butyl paraben and Ethyl paraben.

So lets review. There are four types paraben to look for when reading a product label. They are methyl paraben, propyl paraben, Butyl Paraben and Ethyl paraben.

Thank you for joining me for this Minute on Parabens. Be aware of what is your skin care products and join me next for more minutes on skin care. Remember, Healthy skin is Beautiful skin, see you next time!
