Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage

During pregnancy a women’s body is under more stress than at any other time in her life. Her body is working hard to support a nurturing environment for her baby to grow. Most women will tell you everything changes during pregnancy. A normal workday becomes more strenuous with the ever-growing baby. Emotions become more sensitive as hormones continuously fluctuate and stress levels increase. Massage is an overall relaxation time for mom and assists with hormone balancing by stimulating glandular secretions reducing depression and anxiety. Massage has been proven to assist all the organs of the body to function better, this is especially important during pregnancy when cells need extra nutrients to help the baby grow. Pregnancy massage provided by someone who has specialized in the field can reduce fatigue and morning sickness by eliminating waste products and carrying away lactic acid that builds up and causes muscle fatigue. Women that I have massaged throughout their pregnancy have stated that on days they received massage they were able to get a better and deeper nights rest. This is due to endorphins being released into the mother's body. Women who suffer from edema (water retention) in their ankles and hands notice a reduction of swelling after massages as massage stimulates the lymphatic and circulatory systems reducing their chances of toxemia. Pregnancy induced symptoms such as sciatica are relieved with massage by releasing tense muscles, toning loose muscles and increasing muscular flexibility. Massage increases local and general blood circulation, which brings more oxygen and nutrients to the cells for both mother and baby, resulting in greater vitality for the mother and better nourishment for the baby. Overall massage is a beneficial and relaxing treatment for both mom and baby.
