What is Hypnosis?
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a combination of intention and attention; a self-induced, specifically focused state of mind characterized by alpha and theta brain waves. We all shift in and out of a hypnotic state many times each day; this shift can happen either deliberately, or automatically and effortlessly. When we become engrossed in reading a book, doing a task, watching a movie, or daydreaming, we enter a hypnotic state. We are always in complete control of our focus and concentration, our attention, and our intention; even when a hypnotist guides us into a hypnotic state.
Therapeutic Applications
Hypnosis, applied in a therapeutic context, provides access to the deep unconscious, or subconscious mind, where all of one’s life experience information is stored. Not only traumas, fears, beliefs, and habits, but also the knowledge of what is needed to regain clarity and balance, resides in the subconscious mind. Hypnosis was recognized in 1958 by the American Medical Association as a valid, beneficial, and therapeutic healing modality. Many modern scientific studies have repeatedly demonstrated and confirmed the powerful and effective nature of the mind in healing physical illness and dis-ease.
Are You Willing?
Willingness is the key to success. All hypnosis is self hypnosis; a hypnotist or hypnotherapist cannot hypnotize someone who is not willing. Often it’s just far easier and more comfortable emotionally to stay where we are than to venture into uncharted waters; even though where we are may be quite unpleasant indeed! Hypnosis can not make one do anything one does not want to do, and it cannot make one something one does not already have a desire to achieve. Hypnosis simply makes achieving any goal, including optimum health, easier and more possible. We choose our thoughts voluntarily, and what the mind perceives, the body follows. With deliberate intention, we can fully devote our attention to what we choose to accomplish, and we can literally direct the physiology of our body systems toward optimum functioning, healing, and health. We can shift with relative ease back into balance and wellbeing with hypnosis.
Give Yourself an Advantage Toward Healing
Hypnosis can be effective and complete as a singular approach to resolving health problems. Or, by choosing and utilizing a combination of several appropriate modalities – such as nutrition therapy, bodywork, chiropractic, naturopathy, energy medicine, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, ayurveda, oriental medicine, as well as modern allopathic and other treatments – hypnosis can be successfully integrated into a multi-faceted approach to healing and health and wellness promotion.
Set a deliberate intention to choose healing and optimum health. Then make an appointment with a hypnotherapist to release trauma, unconscious negative emotions, and limiting habits or thought, word, and deed. Use hypnosis to also program healthy patterns of thought, attitude, and behavior; speed physical healing, build self confidence and acceptance, access your innate talents, strengthen your immune system, develop positive attitudes, as well as to achieve clarity about which complementary modalities can most efficiently move you toward creating optimum health.
Step out of the quagmire of illness and dis-ease, and into your natural state of vibrant health. Complete freedom, growth, and joy lies within you…whenever you’re ready, hypnosis can be the key to finding it all.
