Our physicians and practitioners are experienced in co-managing the care of patients paralyzed with emotions, many times caused by an abusive environment.  We believe that Cranial Unwinding can help one deal with the effects of trauma, specifically feeling stuck in a cycle of unbalanced emotions, or feeling controlled by the trauma.

In short, Cranial Unwinding allows the body to use its own natural way to unwind itself.  The therapist uses a very light touch to connect with the body and helps the client move his/her body following this natural unwinding pattern that is different for every person.  While the body is in movement the mind replays thought processes that happened at the time of trauma and the client has a chance to rethink and put into perspective what thoughts are of current value for the here and now.  As the body unwinds itself it loosens the tissues and opens channels, allowing the flow of fluid to move to areas that were too tight to benefit from the nourishment this fluid has to offer.  This flow of fluid through the body's tissues, spine and the cranium create a balance.  Loosening of the tissues also helps to free nerve endings, often relieving the source of pain.        

In detail, Cranial Unwinding is a ‘process' oriented hands-on therapy which speaks the language of cellular reality, meaning it shifts and alters the makeup of cells and systems in the body to promote movement and release stagnation. The focus of this technique is assembling and realigning the healing emotions within the body which jump starts the patient's own healing ability and emotional process.  A relationship is established between the body's tissue (which holds much of the unconscious memory) and the core energy and emotion in the body. It is through these rhythmic pulsatory craniosacral pathways that the physical tissues are nurtured, enabling them to perform all of the body's vital biological functions. The client thus becomes connected to the primary core of energy which enables them to relax tension, release emotional blocks and open the energy pathways in the body, restoring balance and revitalization.

What to expect in a Cranial session?

You will either sit in a chair, or lay down on a massage table, whatever is most comfortable for you.  Cranial is a clothed modality and can be done either hands on or hands off the body.   You may become aware of sensations such as heat, vibration, moisture, tingling, or you may feel nothing at all.  It is perfect however you experience it.

How long is a session?

The session should take place within about an hour.

Natural Methods of Induction

The Center for True Harmony recommends that pre-labor acupuncture and/or reflexology begins at 38wks or 2 wks prior to due date (EDC).  For optimal results acupuncture and/or reflexology treatments should be done at least 2 times a week.

There are no potential risks or side-effects to the infant or mother.  The down side to these treatments is that labor may not start immediately.  Acupuncture and reflexology can be done in combination for added benefit or alone.

Reflexology

Reflexology can help “kick-start” labor.  If your labor has stalled or simply not clicked-in yet then reflexology can stimulates your body into committing to the process of labor quite effectively. Reflexology will also increase effectiveness of contractions and decrease labor time.

Acupuncture

Research has shown that Acupuncture during the late stage of pregnancy will improve cervical ripening, increase likelihood of spontaneous labor, decrease likelihood of C-section delivery, and decrease average labor time.

The Truth about Abnormal PAPs & HPV and Treatment Options

Many patients have multiple misconceptions about Abnormal paps and HPV.  We debunk the myths associated with HPV, abnormal paps and cervical cancer passed on by friends, family and television commercials.

FAQ's about HPV

What is HPV?

HPV is a common virus. There are about 40 types of HPV that affect the genitals or sex organs of men and women. Some HPV types can cause genital warts. Other types can infect a woman's cervix and lead to cervical cancer over many years.  But most of the time, HPV causes no symptoms or health problems and goes away by itself within two 2 years. Experts do not know why HPV goes away in so many, but not all women.

How does HPV cause cervical cancer?

HPV can cause normal cells on your cervix to turn abnormal.  Most of the time, HPV goes away on its own.  When HPV goes away, your cervical cells go back to normal.  But HPV lingers for many years; these abnormal cells can turn into cancer.

Can I prevent Cervical Cancer?

Yes. You can get screening tests that can find early signs of cervical cancer before you ever get sick.  That way, problems can be found and removed before they ever become cancer.  The PAP test and HPV test are cervical cancer screening tests.

How is the PAP test different from the HPV test?

Both of these tests help screen for cervical cancer, but they look for different things.  The PAP test looks for cell changes on your cervix that could develop into cervical cancer.  The HPV test looks for HPV, the virus that can cause these cell changes.

How likely am I to get cancer if I have HPV?

Few women who have HPV get cervical cancer- as long as they follow their doctor's advice for needing testing and treatment.  If you have HPV, your doctor may check up on you more often and do more tests to look for changes on your cervix. That way your doctor can find and treat any changes early, so you don't get cervical cancer.

Is there a treatment for HPV?

There is no treatment for HPV, but most people's bodies do eventually fight the virus off.  There are treatments for the health problems that HPV can cause - genital warts, cervical cancer, and abnormal PAP results. Once abnormal cells are treated and removed, you may need to get PAP tests done more often to make sure they do not come back.

Treatment plans are based on your history and lab results. After discussing the risks and benefits of the conventional and alternative options with you, together we will choose the optimal treatment plan for your specific healthcare picture. Massage increases metabolism by 20% while stimulating growth hormone by 40% and so 60 minutes of Massage is equivalent to 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise.
