Patients desiring IUD or with questions about IUD, need to make a focused consult appointment with either Dr. Christine Brass-Jones, Dr. Grobe or Mary Ann to discuss the options, how it works, risk factors, and other information. They will be given brochures explaining the IUD of choice. They will be informed at this appointment that there are requirements prior to placing the IUD. These include;
Current (within last year) negative PAP test
Current (within last 6 months) negative GC/Chlamydia cultures
If these have not been done, a swab for GC/Chlamydia cultures can be done at the consult appointment, but the PAP must be done at a separate appointment with a Well Woman Exam.
After obtaining and/or verifying the required test results, the office will then check insurance coverage and determine the patient’s cost for the IUD.
After we have the insurance information, the patient will be notified, and at that time can make an appointment for IUD insertion with an approved provider (currently, only Dr. Christine Brass-Jones).
The day of IUD insertion procedure:
The patient is advised to take 800 mg of Tylenol one hour prior to appointment for IUD insertion. The patient is required to sign the IUD consent form prior to insertion. The patient is required to give a urine sample for pregnancy testing. Any positive pregnancy test will disqualify patient from receiving the IUD.
