Liver Cleanse

General Instructions

  • Drink a minimum of 10-12 large glasses of purified water every day
  • Take a brick, one-hour walk everyday during the cleanse to help colon elimination channels moving
  • Take warm baths followed by a cold shower and a nap during your cleanse, at least once every day if at all possible
  • Lower back and pelvis massage, castor oil packs to you liver area (right side, at the lower part of and just below the ribs), and dry skin brushing will help release toxins through the skin
  • Avoid alcohol and drug use during the cleanse (including aspirin and acetaminophen [Tylenol})
  • This program may be followed for one week, or as directed by your doctor.

Keys to a successful and productive Liver Cleanse

  • Eat high-chlorophyll plants (raw) for the enzymes they contain (chlorophyll may also be supplemented)
  • Eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables for fiber
  • Only organic foods should be consumed, so that no additional toxins are introduced
  • Cultured foods (soy yogurt, miso) for friendly bowel flora and may be eaten daily (remember that ½ cup=1 serving).

The night before you Liver Cleanse

  • Take a gentle herbal laxative as recommended by your doctor, or precede this cleanse with a bowel cleanse
  • Make your last mean a large, raw, organic slad with pure olive iol and lemon juice for dressing
  • Make sure you have all the foods and supplements you need for the first few days:
  • Plenty of pure water
  • Lots of organic greens ad other vegetables and fruits that you like to eat raw, and lots of fresh garlic.
  • Organic brown rice
  • Good quality oils (extra virgin olive oil, flax, borage, Udo’s oils)
  • Lemons and/or fresh lemon juice
  • Herbs and spices to add flavor to your meals
  • Vegetables for fresh juices (carrots, celery, parsley, beets) and a juice, or know of a place you can get fresh juice (Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Wild Oats, and Fry’s Marketplace all have fresh, organic juices delivered daily)
  • Herbal teas (e.g. licorice, dandelion, or oatgrass), or a formula recommended by your doctor

Supplements:

  • Vitamin C. 1000 mg three times per day
  • Vitamin E. 800-1200 iu per day, as recommended by your doctor
  • Milk Thistle, 3 capsules three times per day
  • NAC, 600 mg once a day

For the duration of the cleanse…

  • Upon rising, drink 16 oz. of pure water with the juice of 1 lemon, lime or orange, and a ½ tsp. of grated ginger added (may be warm or cold)
  • Twenty minutes later drink a fresh juice consisting of carrots, celery, parsley, and beets. An apple or orange may be added for flavor variation. If buying juice, try to get a combination of these, or carrot if nothing else is available.
  • Take a 10/20 minute sun bath every day (don’t overdo!)
  • Do dry skin brushing each bath or shower

How to eat during the cleanse

  • For breakfast, eat fresh fruit.. eat as much as you need to for satiety
  • For lunch and dinner, begin with a cup of miso soup followed by a raw salad (use extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice as dressing). The main meal should consist of brown rice and raw and/or slightly steamed vegetables, sufficient to satisfy hunger. 1 cup of cooked beans, 2 soft-boiled eggs, or a serving of fish may be added at the noon meal for additional protein.
  • Eat at least 4 Tb of good oil (see above) every day, and at least 4 large cloves of raw garlic (add to salad or dressing) – parsley will keep your breath fresh, and together these speed liver detoxification
  • Snacks of raw seeds and vegetables as well as miso soup may be eaten throughout the day, as often as desired
  • Stop eating at least three hours prior to bedtime
  • Avoid all dairy, sugar, and process foods

Expect to feel tired, toxic, and cranky for the first few days after beginning your cleanse, but after the first week you should feel more energy, more positive, and more healthy overall, both physically and emotionally.
