You will not be alone: While there are a lot of changes at the hospital, we ensure you will not be alone. Having a support team, your birth team at the hospital, and your provider from your practice will not change.
We are working hard to keep you safe: For our hospital mamas, you will notice everyone is wearing masks, washing their hands perfectly, and is being screened for symptoms every time they enter the hospital. Any suspected or positive patients are not in the same area as healthy patients on L&D
Stay present in the moment, limit news/social media, avoid catastrophizing: Focus on one day at a time, make intentional and specific goals to avoid social media or news stories (Like not tuning in after 5pm every day or having a social media free day), and focus on what is going on in your immediate circle. Just like in labor, taking it in step by step instead of looking as it as a whole makes it more manageable, less overwhelming.
Find joy where you can: Find the positives of this time of slowing down and tuning in. Many people are grateful for time with family, more support from their partners at home, or more time for creativity or hobbies. While it is important to recognize and tend to feelings of fear, disappointment, and anxiety, it is also important to find the joy in all this!
Stay connected: From video chatting friends and family members to joining this support group, it is important to maintain your community. For postpartum mamas, finding support through meal trains, having people do grocery store runs, and virtually checking, you can still connect with your support systems.
Take care of mental health: Do not hesitate to ask for help if you need it! Things that can help boost your mood include exercise, outdoor time, meditation, yoga, social time, vitamin D, fish oil, or reaching out to a therapist for a virtual session.
This is tough, but so are we! Think of all the women who have birthed in challenging times like during wars, plagues, extreme poverty, national tragedies, or natural disasters. You are so resilient, strong, and able to stand up to this challenge, and have so many people walking this same journey with you.
